About us

Minprotech (Pty) Ltd. is a South African mineral processing company specialising in the recovery of fine chromite. With 8 active operations and a workforce of more than 311 permanent employees, the company has produced in excess of 2.2 million tons of metallurgical-grade concentrate.
As a pioneer in the application of WHIMS technology for chrome beneficiation in South Africa, Minprotech has established itself as a leader in the design, commissioning, and operation of chrome recovery plants. While initially focused on WHIMS-based fine chromite recovery, the company has strategically expanded its capabilities to encompass a comprehensive suite of beneficiation technologies.
This evolution is evidenced by Minprotech’s successful integration into full ROM (Run-of-Mine) processing operations. Flagship projects such as the Lesedi and the newly commissioned OB plant demonstrate the company’s expertise across the full processing value chain, including crushing, milling, classification, and beneficiation. These developments mark a significant transition from tailings retreatment to primary processing of ROM material.
Building on this momentum, Minprotech currently has three additional projects underway, all scheduled for commissioning within the year. These projects further reinforce the company’s growing footprint in ROM processing and incorporate advanced crushing, milling, classification, and spiral beneficiation circuits.
Headquartered in Rustenburg, South Africa, Minprotech operates a fully equipped engineering workshop and mineral processing laboratory, where full-scale test work is conducted to optimise plant performance and support continuous innovation.
